#35 Lucy

“Daaaad I’m hungry.”

“I know. You’ve said. And you’ve said it at least a thousand times.”

Lucy wriggled about impatiently in the back, struggling against the restraints of her car seat.

“Can we pull over?”

“I’ve told you we have to wait till we get further out of town.”

“But whyyyyyy? No one knows us here, it’ll be fine.”

“You have to be patient.”

“NO!” The car rocked from side to side and suddenly wind filled the cabin as the back door was thrown open. Martin stamped on the breaks and pulled over.

“Lucy! Lucy come back!”

The shackles of the car seat had been cracked open and there were bite marks in the arm rest.

“Lucy, where are you?”

“Here Dad. I’m over here.”

He ran to her voice. Just behind an old abandoned outhouse he found her crouched over an odd looking shape.

“Oh Lucy, who was he?”

Great story. I did not spot the twist until that final powerful sentence.
